Miami, Florida – Anyone heading outdoors across South Florida today will face a double weather threat as dangerous heat builds through the afternoon while thunderstorms develop later in the day, bringing lightning, strong wind gusts and localized flooding concerns.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for coastal and metro Miami-Dade and Broward counties from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., with peak heat index values reaching around 105 degrees. The highest heat stress is expected during the afternoon when temperatures combine with tropical humidity.

The heat risk extends across much of South Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Homestead, West Palm Beach, Naples and surrounding communities. Officials recommend staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.

By early afternoon, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across southeastern Florida. Storms could produce frequent to excessive lightning, wind gusts exceeding 40 mph and pockets of urban flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage.

Roadways in Miami-Dade and Broward counties may experience brief flooding during heavier downpours. Drivers should slow down during storms and never attempt to drive through water-covered streets.

The combined heat and storm threat is expected to continue through the evening hours. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued if thunderstorms become stronger or flooding develops in urban areas.
