Kentucky – Rain streaks across windshields and distant rumbles echo as scattered storms move through the Quad State region this morning. Wet pavement along I-24 and U.S. 60 is already slowing traffic, and brief downpours may quickly reduce visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, isolated thunderstorms will continue through the morning with bursts of heavy rain and lightning. A Freeze Warning is now in effect for early Saturday, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 29 degrees across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri .

In McCracken County and nearby communities like Metropolis and Cape Girardeau, drivers should plan extra time through midday. Ponding water may develop on low-lying roads. Conditions improve later today as showers taper and clouds begin to break.

The bigger shift arrives quickly. Cooler air settles in by tonight, and skies clear just enough to allow temperatures to drop sharply by early Saturday. Sensitive plants, early gardens, and outdoor plumbing face potential damage. Cover vegetation and bring potted plants inside before evening.

The weekend rebounds fast. Sunshine returns Saturday with highs near 60, followed by a warm-up into the 70s Sunday. By Monday, summer-like warmth builds with highs pushing into the low 80s.

That warmth fuels the next change. Showers and thunderstorms may return by Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing another round of travel disruptions. Stay weather-aware as conditions may shift quickly.
