Chicago, Illinois – Drivers across the Midwest could face wet roads and cooler-than-normal afternoons starting Friday as a rain-favored June pattern spreads across the region through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook valid Friday, June 19, through Tuesday, June 23, much of the Midwest is favored for below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation, including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri.

The pattern could slow travel across Illinois – Indiana, especially along I-55, I-57, I-65, I-70, I-80 and I-90 during periods of steady rain. Chicago, Indianapolis, Peoria, Fort Wayne and South Bend may see damp commutes, lower visibility and ponding in construction zones or low-lying ramps.

Farther east, Ohio – Michigan residents should prepare for repeated showers from Columbus and Cleveland to Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing. Cooler air may hold afternoon temperatures below typical late-June levels, limiting summer heat but keeping fields, parks and outdoor venues soggy at times.

Across Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota, the rain signal may affect farm work, road projects and weekend events. Des Moines, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Cedar Rapids could see delays where repeated rain keeps pavement slick and slows drying between rounds.

Residents should keep storm drains clear, allow extra travel time and avoid crossing water-covered roads. Event organizers should have indoor options ready from Friday through the weekend.

The cooler, wetter Midwest pattern is expected to continue through Tuesday, with additional alerts possible where heavier rain repeatedly tracks over the same counties.
