Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Damaging wind gusts could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across the region between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday, as scattered severe thunderstorms develop during peak evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, isolated to scattered storms are expected across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, with the primary hazard being strong wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and causing localized power outages. Not all areas will see storms, but those that do could experience sudden impacts within minutes.
Storm activity is expected to build through the late afternoon, targeting cities including Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, Trenton, and Wilmington. Major corridors such as I-95, I-76, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike could see reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions during heavier downpours. Wind gusts may exceed 50 mph in stronger cells.
Utilities could see isolated outages where trees or branches fall onto lines. Outdoor events, evening commutes, and flights in and out of Philadelphia International Airport may face delays.
Residents are urged to monitor alerts, secure loose outdoor items, and ensure phones are fully charged in case of power loss. If a warning is issued, move indoors immediately and avoid traveling during active storms.
The severe weather threat is expected to end by 11 p.m., though additional updates may be issued if storm coverage increases or conditions intensify.
