Chicago, IL – Warm and predominantly dry weather is expected to continue across northern Illinois through at least midweek, but beachgoers along Lake Michigan are being urged to use caution due to dangerous swimming conditions Saturday, May 30.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, gusty onshore winds are creating a high swim risk at Illinois Lake Michigan beaches. Officials warn that strong currents and hazardous wave conditions could make swimming dangerous, even for experienced swimmers.
Temperatures inland Saturday are expected to range from 73 to 84 degrees, while areas near Lake Michigan remain noticeably cooler. Breezy conditions will continue throughout the day, especially along the lakeshore.
The dry weather pattern is forecast to persist through early to mid next week. Sunday is expected to bring highs between 74 and 81 degrees, with temperatures near the lake remaining in the 60s to lower 70s. Monday will warm further, with highs reaching 78 to 85 degrees across much of northern Illinois.
By Tuesday, June 2, mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s to mid-80s are expected across the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding communities.
Cities including Chicago, Evanston, Waukegan, Joliet, Aurora, Elgin and Naperville can expect several days of favorable outdoor weather, though conditions near Lake Michigan will remain cooler than inland locations.
The National Weather Service advises beach visitors to check local beach conditions before entering the water and to avoid swimming near piers, breakwalls and areas with strong currents. Residents are encouraged to follow guidance from local officials and lifeguards where available.
