Parkersburg, WV – A two-vehicle crash involving an Amazon delivery van and a tow truck caused injuries, power outages, and roadway closures Tuesday morning in Wood County, authorities said.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, to the 13,700 block of Emerson Avenue following reports of a serious collision.
Investigators said an Amazon delivery van driven by Cleveland Bedgood of Wood County was traveling northbound on Emerson Avenue when the driver attempted to make a left turn into a driveway.
Authorities said a southbound Westfall Towing wrecker operated by Randy Sergent of Wood County was unable to avoid colliding with the van.
The impact caused the Amazon van to overturn, while the tow truck continued forward and eventually struck a utility pole before coming to a stop.
Officials confirmed the crash resulted in a power outage affecting the surrounding area after the utility pole was damaged. Sergent was transported to a hospital by EMS for treatment of injuries. Authorities did not immediately release additional details regarding the severity of injuries or whether anyone else was hurt.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department, WVU Medicine Camden Clark Ambulance, the West Virginia Division of Highways, the Public Service Commission, and Mon Power.
The roadway remained closed for an extended period while crews investigated the crash, restored utilities, and cleared debris from the scene.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
