Brownsville, TX – A Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday morning across Deep South Texas as additional rounds of heavy rainfall threaten to produce flash flooding throughout the Rio Grande Valley and coastal communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Brownsville, portions of the region have already received between 3 and 6 inches of rainfall over the past 48 hours. Forecasters warn that more heavy rain is expected through the weekend, increasing the risk of flooding in urban and low-lying areas.

The Flood Watch includes Brownsville, McAllen, Harlingen, Edinburg, Mission, Weslaco, Rio Grande City, South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Raymondville, Roma, Zapata, and surrounding communities across Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, Willacy, Brooks, Jim Hogg, and Kenedy counties.

Officials said saturated soil conditions combined with poor urban drainage may lead to isolated to scattered flash flooding, especially during periods of heavier thunderstorms. Storm drains, roadside ditches, creeks, and flood-prone roadways could quickly become overwhelmed.

Coastal areas including South Padre Island, Boca Chica Beach, Port Mansfield, and Laguna Vista may also experience localized flooding during stronger downpours this weekend.

Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts closely and avoid driving through flooded streets. Additional Flood Warnings could be issued if storms repeatedly move over the same locations.

Rain chances are expected to remain elevated through at least early Monday before conditions gradually improve.
