Joliet, IL – A reported threat near Joliet Central High School prompted a temporary lockdown Tuesday morning, May 12, affecting multiple nearby facilities before being deemed unsubstantiated.

According to the Joliet Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:42 a.m. after an unknown individual communicated a threat involving the outside vicinity of Joliet Central High School, located in Will County within the Chicago metro area.

School officials and law enforcement quickly coordinated safety procedures, placing Joliet Central High School, Pathways, and the Transition Center on lockdown while officers conducted a systematic search of the surrounding area.

According to police, no evidence of a credible threat was found, and the situation has since been determined to be fully unsubstantiated. Authorities said they remained in constant communication with school administrators throughout the response, prioritizing the safety of students, staff, and the broader community.

Out of an abundance of caution, an increased police presence will remain at the school through dismissal Tuesday afternoon.
