Jackson, KY – A changing weather pattern is expected across eastern Kentucky this week, with showers and thunderstorms arriving Wednesday, May 13, followed by a noticeable cooldown and even a risk of patchy frost by Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a cold front will move through the region Wednesday, bringing widespread showers and storms across counties including Pike, Laurel, and Pulaski. Rain chances are expected to be high, with precipitation probabilities ranging from 60% to 90% throughout the day.

Temperatures Wednesday will reach the low to mid-70s before dropping sharply overnight into the 40s.

Behind the front, Thursday, May 14, will bring cooler and drier conditions, with highs only reaching the low to upper 60s under sunny skies.

By Friday morning, May 15, conditions may become cool enough for patchy frost and areas of fog, especially in valleys and low-lying areas. Morning lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s to upper 40s, which could impact sensitive vegetation.

Temperatures will rebound into the 70s by Friday afternoon, but the warming trend continues into Saturday, May 16, when highs could climb into the low to upper 80s. Shower and thunderstorm chances are also expected to return heading into the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts, especially for midweek storms and potential frost impacts later in the week.
