Corydon, IN – A Corydon man was killed early Monday morning in a fatal crash along Interstate 64 in Harrison County, causing concern for commuters traveling through southern Indiana.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. near the 98-mile marker, approximately seven miles west of Corydon. Deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department initially responded to the scene and requested assistance from state troopers and crash reconstruction investigators.

Preliminary findings indicate that a silver 2006 Honda Civic, driven by 31-year-old Zachary Burdin of Corydon, was traveling westbound in the right lane of I-64 when it struck the rear of a commercial straight truck hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with paving equipment. Authorities said the impact occurred in the same lane of travel.

Burdin, who was the sole occupant of the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Harrison County Coroner. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

Investigators noted that weather conditions are not believed to have contributed to the collision. The exact circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation by Indiana State Police.

The family of Zachary Burdin has been notified.

Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the Harrison County Coroner’s Office, and the Ramsey Fire Department.

Drivers traveling through the area Monday morning experienced delays as crews worked to investigate and clear the scene. No additional updates have been released at this time.
