Fort Wayne, Ind. – Strong thunderstorms could disrupt the evening commute and outdoor plans between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday, with damaging winds and large hail posing the biggest threats across northern Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, storms are expected to develop late Thursday afternoon and intensify into the evening, especially south of Interstate 80/90. High temperatures reaching the upper 70s to near 80°F will help fuel instability ahead of the system.

Cities including Fort Wayne, Warsaw, Kokomo, and areas along US-30 and I-69 face the greatest risk for severe storms during the evening hours. Large hail and wind gusts strong enough to knock down tree limbs and power lines are possible, with isolated tornadoes and localized flooding not ruled out.

Drivers should prepare for sudden downpours reducing visibility and ponding on roads during peak travel times. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Storms are expected to move out late Thursday night, but additional updates or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve through the evening.
