Eastern United States – The National Weather Service has released its final seasonal snowfall rankings for the 2025–2026 winter, showing major regional differences across the eastern half of the country.
According to the National Weather Service Eastern Region, snowfall totals varied dramatically by state, with the highest accumulations concentrated in northern New York and New England. Highmarket, New York recorded the highest total in the region at 253.6 inches, followed by Mount Washington, New Hampshire with 236.3 inches.
Other top snowfall locations included parts of Vermont, where Greensboro saw nearly 197 inches, and Maine, where Phillips recorded just over 101 inches for the season.
In contrast, southern states saw far lower totals. North Carolina’s highest snowfall was just over 62 inches at Beech Mountain, while South Carolina reported totals closer to 12 inches. Virginia’s top total reached just over 42 inches, highlighting the sharp gradient between northern and southern snowfall patterns.
Pennsylvania and Ohio also saw significant snowfall in localized areas, with Corry, Pennsylvania recording over 161 inches and parts of northeast Ohio exceeding 120 inches.
Officials noted that while the snow season technically runs through June 30, snowfall has largely ended across most of the East. The data is considered preliminary but is based on official weather station reports, including National Weather Service observers and cooperative networks.
The report underscores how elevation, geography, and storm tracks contributed to wide variations in snowfall totals across the region this winter season.
