Huntsville, Alabama — Rain returns to North Alabama late Friday night, with light to moderate showers expected to create slick roads and reduced visibility between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. across Huntsville, Decatur, and Athens. Drivers may encounter water pooling on low-lying roads and dark, wet pavement that increases stopping distance overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, rain chances will increase late Friday evening and persist into early Saturday morning, with the most consistent showers occurring from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. across the Tennessee Valley region.
Even modest rainfall could create hazards along I-565 in Huntsville and I-65 near Athens, especially in poorly drained areas and construction zones where water can collect quickly. Cooler overnight temperatures dipping into the upper 30s to low 40s by Saturday and Sunday mornings may also create early-day discomfort for outdoor workers and increase demand for heating.
This is part of a broader system bringing a brief surge of moisture into the region before drier air settles in for the weekend.
Slow down on wet roads overnight and avoid low-water crossings where runoff can collect.
The highest travel impact will occur from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., when rain coverage peaks and visibility drops across North Alabama.
