Will County, Illinois – A series of outdoor programs ranging from beginner fishing lessons to wellness activities are scheduled across Will County forest preserves in the coming weeks, offering residents a variety of ways to engage with nature.
According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, events will take place during the weeks of May 18 and May 25 at multiple locations, including Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Romeoville, Channahon, Crete Township, and Mokena. Organizers say the programs are designed for a wide range of ages and interests, with several free options available.
A “First Time Fishing” program is set for Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, at Hidden Lakes Trout Farm in Bolingbrook. Participants ages 8 and older can learn basic fishing skills, including setting up tackle and casting a line, with equipment provided for a $5 fee.
Other highlights include migratory bird viewing at Lake Renwick Heron Rookery in Plainfield on May 23 and May 30, where visitors may spot herons, egrets, and bald eagles. A Museum Campus Day in Romeoville on May 23 will offer self-guided exploration of local history exhibits.
Additional programs include a walking book discussion in Channahon, a sun printing workshop for children in Crete Township, and a Wellness Day event in Mokena on May 30 featuring yoga, guided walks, and nature journaling.
Officials encourage residents to register in advance through the district’s event calendar, noting that some programs have deadlines and limited capacity.
