Minneapolis, Minnesota – Rain is already slowing the Monday morning commute across the Twin Cities, with wet pavement and reduced visibility expected to persist through the afternoon before temperatures drop sharply overnight, raising frost concerns by early Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, periods of rain with occasional thunderstorms will continue through Monday, with highs between 52 and 62 degrees. Conditions begin to dry out late in the day, but clearing skies will allow temperatures to fall quickly into the 32 to 40 degree range by early Tuesday.
Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, and surrounding suburbs along I-94, I-35, and Highway 169 will see the steadiest rainfall through midday, creating slick travel conditions during peak traffic hours. While severe weather is not expected, brief downpours could reduce visibility and slow traffic. By Tuesday morning, western and central Minnesota may see patchy frost as lows dip to near freezing.
The cooler pattern continues through midweek, with morning lows between 30 and 36 degrees Wednesday through Friday. Gardeners should cover sensitive plants, and drivers should remain alert for early morning slick spots in colder rural areas.
Rain exits by Monday evening, but the shift to colder nights will be the next concern through the end of the workweek.
