Island County, Washington – A driver was taken to the hospital after a it crashed into a freshwater pond Saturday evening in Island County, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Island County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on April 26 along Dike Road. Deputies said the vehicle failed to navigate a curve and left the roadway, ultimately coming to rest in a pond located on the west side of the dike.

Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital with what were described as minor injuries. No other occupants or injuries were reported in the incident.

Authorities confirmed the vehicle remains in the pond as officials work on a recovery plan. It is unclear how long the removal process will take or whether the crash caused any environmental concerns in the freshwater area.

Dike Road is a local route in Island County, including parts of Whidbey Island, and drivers are urged to use caution when traveling through curves, especially during evening hours when visibility may be reduced.
