Honolulu, HI – Strong winds are continuing to impact the Big Island’s highest elevations, with gusts up to 60 mph creating hazardous conditions through the early morning hours Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for the Big Island summits until 6 a.m. HST Thursday. While a previous High Wind Warning has been canceled, west winds between 30 and 45 mph are still strong enough to create dangerous conditions, especially in exposed areas near Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
These ուժ winds can make driving difficult, particularly on summit access roads where sudden gusts may push vehicles off course. Walking outdoors can also become unsafe as strong bursts of wind may knock people off balance or forcefully swing doors open or shut.
Travelers heading to summit مناطق are urged to delay trips until winds ease. Those already in the area should secure loose items and use extreme caution when exiting vehicles.
Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise Thursday, but gusty winds may linger briefly before fully subsiding.
