Medford, Ore. – A rapid warmup is pushing temperatures well above normal across southern Oregon, with afternoon highs nearing 80°F and increasing heat sensitivity risks through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a stable weather pattern is driving temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above seasonal averages across southern Oregon and northern California through Friday afternoon. Cities including Medford, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, and Roseburg are expected to see highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, levels more typical of late spring.

The elevated warmth may create minor heat-related impacts, particularly for individuals sensitive to temperature swings. Areas west of the Cascades, including Medford and Roseburg, are expected to see the most consistent warming during peak afternoon hours between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, take breaks during outdoor activity, and monitor vulnerable populations. Snowmelt may also increase in higher elevations, adding to stream flows across the region.

A noticeable cooldown is expected to begin Saturday afternoon, with highs dropping back into the 60s and low 70s through the weekend. Officials say more seasonable conditions will settle in by early next week.
