Louisville, KY – Roads across Kentucky and southern Indiana could turn slick overnight as light snow develops after midnight before quickly transitioning to rain during the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, temperatures will drop into the mid-20s overnight, allowing light snow to accumulate briefly—mainly under a half inch—across areas including Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Bowling Green, as well as southern Indiana cities like New Albany and Jeffersonville. Snow will begin after midnight and change to rain between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The timing creates a narrow but impactful window for slick travel, especially on bridges and overpasses along I-64, I-65, and I-71. Untreated surfaces could become hazardous before rising temperatures push readings into the upper 40s to mid-50s by midday, helping improve road conditions.

Drivers heading out early Wednesday should allow extra time, reduce speeds, and watch for icy patches before the transition to rain clears roadways. Additional light rain is possible Thursday, mainly across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.

Conditions improve later Wednesday, but early morning travel remains the primary concern as precipitation shifts from snow to rain.
