CEDAR LAKE, Ind. — A reported road rage call Friday morning led to a stalking arrest in a Cedar Lake restaurant parking lot.

According to the Cedar Lake Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, to the parking lot of Harry O’s after reports of a possible road rage incident.

When officers arrived, Detective Marcus McDowell made contact with a vehicle driven by Aaron Braun, 41, of DeMotte, Indiana, police said. When confronted and ordered out of the vehicle, Braun allegedly attempted to flee by locking his door and driving forward before being taken into custody by Det. McDowell and Cpl. Jake Huppenthal, according to police.

Investigators later determined the incident allegedly involved stalking, not road rage.

Police said Braun had been following a 24-year-old woman from Lowell and cut off another vehicle to turn into the Harry O’s parking lot to continue following her.

According to the advisory, investigators determined Braun had previously followed the woman from a Strack & Van Til grocery store in Lowell, where she works. Police said Braun previously worked at the same store about two years ago, but the victim told officers she did not know him and had no relationship with him.

Braun allegedly told officers the woman was his wife. Investigators determined that claim was false.

The victim also told officers Braun had previously come to her workplace asking questions about her and said he was “looking for a wife,” according to police.

Braun was taken to the Lake County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Stalking (Level 6 Felony)
  • Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving (Class C Misdemeanor)

All charges are allegations, and Braun is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case highlights how quickly suspected road incidents can escalate into criminal investigations, particularly for commuters traveling between Lowell and Cedar Lake.
