Chicago, IL – A major fire erupted in a railyard near Columbus and Western avenues early Friday morning, halting Metra’s Southwest service line and leading to an evacuation of the area.
The Chicago Fire Department has declared it a Level II Hazmat situation. According to Metra officials, all train operations in the affected area are suspended, with Train No. 800, which was due to arrive at Union Station at 6:12 a.m., currently stopped at Ashburn.
No injuries have been reported in this incident. The fire department is actively working to contain the blaze, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
