Kankakee, Illinois — A pop-up food pantry in Kankakee will assist residents affected by recent tornado damage.

According to organizers, the emergency mobile pantry will take place Thursday, March 19, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Genesis Community Ministries, 2100 E. Maple St. in Kankakee.

The event is being organized by Let’s Ketchup in partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to help families impacted by the recent storm. Organizers said the distribution will primarily include nonperishable food items.

In a social media post announcing the event, Let’s Ketchup said the additional pop-up pantry was arranged specifically to help residents dealing with storm-related disruptions.

“Anyone impacted by the storm is able to come through,” organizers wrote, encouraging community members to help spread the word.

The group also encouraged residents to pick up food for neighbors or relatives who may not be able to attend. Organizers noted that some local families lost vehicles during the storm, making transportation difficult.

Genesis Community Ministries is hosting the distribution site, and organizers thanked the organization for supporting the community effort.

Pop-up food distributions are often used after severe weather events to quickly provide essential supplies to affected residents while recovery continues.

Students, young workers, and commuters in affected households may also benefit from the supplemental food access.

The event is open to the public, and all residents impacted by the tornado are welcome to attend during the scheduled distribution window.
