Herscher, IL – Sixteen cows are back in their pens after a mysterious breakout from a Herscher farm on Saturday.

The escapees, a mix of male and female cattle weighing between 300-500 lbs each, had the town on alert as they roamed free and missing, prompting questions about their means of escape and potential for future frolics. While their Saturday sojourn remains unexplained, the community and farm owner breathe a collective sigh of relief.

As for the risk of repeat ramblings, Herscher is on watch, half-jokingly pondering what aliases these bovines might assume if they wander again.
