Falmouth, Mass. — A Route 28 traffic stop led to drug trafficking arrests and a large cocaine seizure Thursday night.

According to the Falmouth Police Department, officers assisted the Oak Bluffs Police Department and the DEA Cape Cod Task Force during an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.

Authorities said the investigation began with Oak Bluffs Police before expanding to regional partners.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026, task force members tracked a target vehicle traveling southbound on Route 28 in Falmouth. A uniformed Falmouth police officer conducted a motor vehicle stop after allegedly observing the vehicle traveling more than 90 mph, police said.

Both the driver and a passenger were detained and transported to the Falmouth Police Department while investigators continued the operation.

Task force officers later executed a search warrant on the vehicle, assisted by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, authorities said.

During the search, investigators reportedly located approximately 407.85 grams of cocaine, pills, and additional paraphernalia allegedly connected to narcotics distribution.

Police identified the suspects as Keslley Luiz Xavier, 32, and Mateus Souza de Oliveira, 33, both of Edgartown.

According to police, both men were charged with trafficking in cocaine over 200 grams and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Officials said bail for each suspect was set at $10,000, and both were transported to the Barnstable County Correctional Complex.

The investigation involved coordination between Oak Bluffs Police, the DEA Cape Cod Task Force, Falmouth Police, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

Drug trafficking investigations remain a focus for regional law enforcement agencies across Cape Cod.

For some younger Cape commuters and workers who regularly travel Route 28, incidents like this highlight the ongoing enforcement presence along the corridor.
