New Britain, Conn. – Stanley Black & Decker plans to permanently close its Myrtle Street facility, eliminating approximately 300 jobs beginning in May.

According to a WARN notice dated Tuesday, March 3, 2026, and submitted to the Connecticut Department of Labor, the company will close its facility at 600 Myrtle Street due to a decline in product demand. The action is expected to be permanent and will result in the termination of all employees at the site.

The phased layoffs will begin May 4, 2026, with the largest wave affecting 287 workers between May 4 and May 18. Additional reductions are scheduled for June 30 through July 14 (3 employees), Aug. 30 through Sept. 13 (8 employees), Dec. 31 through Jan. 14, 2027 (1 employee), and March 31 through April 14, 2027 (1 employee).

Employees at the facility are represented by IAM District 26, Locals 1433 and 1249. Company officials identified union contacts in the filing and stated the notice provides the required 60 days’ advance warning under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

An enclosed breakdown shows job classifications impacted across assembly, inspection benches, maintenance, engineering, quality, supply chain and major equipment operations.

The New Britain facility has long been part of the city’s manufacturing base, and the closure may significantly impact local workers and families, including skilled trades and entry-level production roles.

Company officials said questions may be directed to the human resources department.
