Macon, Georgia – A 17-year-old Macon suspect was arrested after an armed carjacking and pursuit.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies responded just after midnight to a reported armed robbery carjacking in Macon. The incident began near the intersection of Ell Street and Laveta Drive, where a Lyft driver reported dropping off three passengers.
Investigators said the passengers allegedly brandished firearms at the driver and demanded the vehicle. The victim exited the car, and the suspects drove away. Deputies later located the vehicle on Log Cabin Drive and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly fled.
Authorities said the pursuit ended when the suspect lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Log Cabin Drive and Hillcrest Road, striking an embankment. Two suspects ran from the scene on foot. A third suspect exited while allegedly pointing a firearm at deputies before dropping the weapon and fleeing, according to the sheriff’s office.
A deputy deployed a Taser and apprehended the suspect. Officials said the firearm was recovered and determined to have been stolen from the victim’s vehicle.
The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Anthony Dewayne Goolsby of Macon. He was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash and later booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
According to authorities, Goolsby was charged with Armed Robbery, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Hijacking a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of Certain Felonies, Felony Theft by Taking, and Felony Fleeing and Eluding an Officer. His bond has been denied.
The incident remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division. The case may raise safety concerns for late-night rideshare drivers and young workers.
