Jonesborough, Tennessee – A Friday night traffic stop on Interstate 26 led to the seizure of 241 grams of methamphetamine and the arrest of a Hampton woman, authorities said.
According to Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies stopped Sarah E. Tester, 34, around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, for allegedly speeding on I-26 near Jonesborough. A K-9 unit was deployed during the stop and alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
Sheriff Sexton said deputies searched a backpack located in the front seat and discovered a brown grocery bag containing a clear bag with 241 grams — approximately 8.6 ounces — of a substance consistent with methamphetamine. Multiple cell phones were also reportedly found inside the vehicle.
Tester was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, driving while in possession of methamphetamine, and speeding. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Authorities transported Tester to the Washington County Detention Center. Her bond was set at $11,000, which she reportedly posted. She is scheduled to appear in court Monday, March 2.
Interstate 26 is a major commuter corridor in Northeast Tennessee, frequently used by students and workers traveling between Johnson City and surrounding communities.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
