Londonderry, N.H. – A Massachusetts man was seriously injured Saturday after being struck on Interstate 93 South, prompting a multi-hour lane closure near Exit 5.
According to New Hampshire State Police, the crash occurred just before 11 a.m. when troopers assigned to Troop B responded to reports of a pedestrian struck along the southbound lanes.
Investigators determined Felix Matos Medina, 40, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, had stopped his vehicle in the breakdown lane on the right side of the highway due to a possible mechanical issue. Shortly after exiting his vehicle, Medina was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu driven by David Jodoin, 43, of Londonderry.
Medina was transported by medical helicopter to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts, with serious injuries. Jodoin remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to state police.
During the on-scene investigation and helicopter landing, Interstate 93 South was closed near Exit 5 for approximately half an hour. One lane remained closed for several additional hours while the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit investigated. Troopers were assisted by the Londonderry Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
No charges have been filed at this time, and the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Evan Poupore at (603) 451-9784.
Authorities also reminded drivers that New Hampshire’s “Move Over” law requires motorists to slow down and move over when approaching stopped vehicles displaying warning signals.
This incident may affect weekend commuters traveling between southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
