Pahokee, Florida – A series of shootings across Pahokee on Wednesday left two people dead, one injured, and a Palm Beach County deputy hospitalized.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the incidents began at approximately 10:12 p.m. when Charles McCloud Jr., 44, allegedly opened fire at multiple locations throughout the city.

Investigators said the first shooting occurred at 171 Booker Place, where two adult men were shot and pronounced dead at the scene. A second shooting followed in the 8700 block of Doveland Drive. Authorities said multiple shots were fired there, but no injuries were reported.

The third shooting happened at a convenience store at 750 Belle Glade Road, where McCloud allegedly shot an adult male. The victim is expected to survive, according to PBSO.

Shortly afterward, deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 8700 block of Doveland Drive. During a preliminary investigation, McCloud allegedly drove his black GMC SUV toward a deputy, striking him and pushing him approximately 40 feet. Investigators said McCloud exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and attempted to shoot the injured deputy.

The deputy discharged his service weapon, striking and killing McCloud. A second deputy also fired during the encounter. The injured deputy sustained serious injuries and is being treated at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

According to PBSO, McCloud had an extensive criminal history, including prior charges involving weapons and narcotics offenses.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and PBSO’s Violent Crimes Division are investigating. The involved deputy has been placed on administrative leave, standard protocol in deputy-involved shootings.

The incidents may affect late-night commuters and students in the Glades area.
