JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – A 44-year-old man was arrested after deputies recovered 4.5 grams of methamphetamine during a Highway 81 patrol early Thursday, prompting multiple felony charges.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies identified Dustin Lee Jones, 44, during patrol shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday along Highway 81 South. Authorities said deputies noticed a vehicle parked at a closed business and determined the license plate was suspended and registered to a different vehicle.

Sheriff Keith Sexton said Jones allegedly provided only a state identification card and consented to a vehicle search. Deputies reported discovering a syringe under the passenger seat. Authorities said Jones emptied his pockets and dropped a baggie containing a crushed, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Deputies transported Jones to the Washington County Detention Center, where authorities said he disclosed additional methamphetamine concealed in his clothing. In total, deputies reported recovering 4.5 grams.

Jones is charged with manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of methamphetamine; unlawful drug paraphernalia; driving without a license; financial responsibility law; and unlawful removal of a registration decal or plate.

He is being held on a $13,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The case remains under investigation, according to authorities.

This arrest may be relevant to residents commuting along Highway 81 South during early morning hours.
