Nashville, TN – A LaVergne man is charged after allegedly driving 99 MPH in a crash that killed a 26-year-old woman on Una Antioch Pike.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Dana Ahmed, 28, surrendered Tuesday on six outstanding warrants, including vehicular homicide by intoxication, stemming from the January 5 multi-vehicle crash at Una Antioch Pike and Piccadilly Row.
Police say Pamela Cruz, 26, was turning left onto Piccadilly Row in a Toyota Corolla when a westbound Mercedes C300, allegedly driven by Ahmed, struck the passenger side of her vehicle at a high rate of speed. The impact pushed the Toyota into a Nissan Altima.
Cruz was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died. Ahmed and the Nissan driver were also taken to Vanderbilt with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, Ahmed’s blood alcohol concentration was .101%. He also allegedly tested positive for THC, benzoylecgonine and fentanyl. Investigators executed a search warrant on the Mercedes’ airbag module, which indicated the vehicle was traveling 99 miles per hour five seconds before impact and 85 miles per hour at airbag deployment. The posted speed limit on Una Antioch Pike is 35 MPH.
In addition to vehicular homicide by intoxication, Ahmed is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a handgun under the influence, and violating release conditions from Rutherford County that prohibited alcohol, controlled substances and firearm possession. Police noted he has a prior DUI conviction from 2017.
Ahmed remains jailed on a $30,000 bond.
The crash disrupted traffic in the Antioch area and may be especially relevant to daily commuters who use Una Antioch Pike.
