Bonney Lake, Washington – Human remains found in 2019 have been identified, renewing a homicide investigation.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the remains discovered inside a sealed yard debris container on 9th Street East near Lake Tapps on August 28, 2019, have been identified as Linda Lee Schock, born February 14, 1966. Investigators previously listed the victim as Jane Doe until forensic genetic genealogy testing in 2025 confirmed her identity.

Detectives said an excavator operator working in the area noticed the suspicious container and learned it had contained remains since approximately 2011. The body was located wrapped in a blanket with duct tape, according to investigators.

Schock’s death has been classified as a homicide. Authorities said the case remains active and unsolved.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Schock’s disappearance or death to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Tacoma/Pierce County at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Investigators have not released details about potential suspects.

The renewed identification may be especially relevant for longtime residents who lived in the Bonney Lake area between 2011 and 2019.
