Venice, Florida – Sarasota County deputies arrested an Indiana fugitive Tuesday, sending her toward extradition.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, its Fugitive Apprehension Unit was alerted on Tuesday, Feb. 17 to locate Adria P. Wilkerson, who authorities said was wanted in Grant County, Indiana, on charges that include reckless homicide.
Investigators found Wilkerson at a relative’s home in Venice, the sheriff’s office said. The agency said the warrant had been made public through Indiana media coverage, and deputies moved quickly once they confirmed her location.
The sheriff’s office said its team set up surveillance at the residence and later saw Wilkerson riding in a vehicle driven by a relative. Deputies conducted a traffic stop nearby and arrested her without incident, the agency said.
Wilkerson was booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility, where she is being held while awaiting extradition to Indiana, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials did not immediately release a timeline for when she could be transported or when she might appear in an Indiana court.
The arrest underscores how out-of-state warrants can lead to rapid action once a wanted person is located, particularly when surveillance and traffic enforcement intersect, authorities said.
For commuters and nearby residents, the sheriff’s office noted the arrest followed a roadside stop conducted close to the Venice residence.
The sheriff’s office credited its personnel and partner agencies for the operation and said it will continue working with other jurisdictions to apprehend people wanted on serious charges.
