Columbia County, WI – A 41-year-old Sun Prairie man was arrested Saturday afternoon after a traffic stop on Highway 51 in DeForest led to a seventh-offense operating while intoxicated charge.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed a vehicle exceeding the posted 55 mph speed limit at approximately 2:44 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. Radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling above the limit, prompting a traffic stop.
During contact with the occupants, the deputy reportedly observed indicators of possible impairment and identified the driver as Michael Robinson, 41, of Sun Prairie. Authorities allege Robinson had been consuming alcohol and marijuana prior to driving.
Investigators determined Robinson allegedly has six prior OWI convictions, a revoked driving status, and was required to have an ignition interlock device installed on his vehicle, which deputies said was not present.
Robinson was arrested and booked into the Columbia County Jail. He is awaiting an initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court on the following charges:
- Operating While Intoxicated, Seventh Offense
- Operating After Revocation
- Failure to Install Ignition Interlock
- Possession of THC
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Officials noted impaired driving incidents can occur at any time of day, not just at night. The charges are accusations, and Robinson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
