Bend, Oregon – Deputies are searching for a 15-year-old who escaped from the Deschutes County Juvenile Detention Center late Sunday night, prompting a neighborhood alert in north Bend.
According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile allegedly escaped at approximately 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, from the facility located on Britta Street. Deputies immediately began searching the surrounding area after learning of the escape.
The teen is described as a mixed-race male with a thin build, approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall, with dirty blonde curly hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Authorities issued a neighborhood alert to residents in north Bend to increase awareness and request assistance. Law enforcement personnel are actively working to locate the juvenile, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said that in accordance with Oregon law and standard practice, the agency will not release the name or photograph of juveniles involved in juvenile proceedings.
Residents who see someone matching the description or who have information about the juvenile’s whereabouts are urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
The detention center is located in a mixed residential and commercial area of north Bend, and deputies continue canvassing nearby streets. The search may be noticeable to commuters and students in the area Monday morning.
Authorities have not released additional details about how the escape occurred. The investigation remains ongoing.
