Jonesborough, Tenn. – A 60-year-old Asheville woman was arrested after deputies allegedly discovered 123 grams of methamphetamine during a late-night traffic stop.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped Anna Marie Viruet-North shortly after 10 p.m. Feb. 17 in the 4000 block of Highway 81 South after she allegedly crossed the center line multiple times approaching Arnold Road.

Sheriff Keith Sexton said deputies located 123 grams of methamphetamine inside the vehicle after Viruet-North consented to a search. Authorities reported finding four individually wrapped baggies inside a potato chip bag, along with a black bag containing a rock of methamphetamine, two additional baggies, and a glass pipe.

Viruet-North is charged with driving while in possession of meth, maintaining a vehicle where narcotics are sold, manufacture/delivery/sale/possession of methamphetamine, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and driving on the right side of the roadway.

She was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

The stop temporarily drew law enforcement activity along Highway 81 South, a corridor frequently used by commuters traveling between Jonesborough and surrounding communities.
