Byron, Wisconsin – A camper fire at a Town of Byron campground Sunday morning left one woman dead and three children injured.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 10:56 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, after multiple 911 calls reported a camper on fire at Breezy Hill Campground, N4177 Cearns Lane in Fond du Lac County.

Initial reports indicated an adult male and three children were able to safely exit the camper, but a woman was believed to still be inside. Deputies, along with personnel from the Eden Fire Department and City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, responded to the scene.

While crews worked to extinguish the fire, authorities located a 35-year-old Fond du Lac woman inside the camper. She was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the fire appeared to have originated in the kitchen area. The cause of the fire and the manner of death remain under investigation. Officials said no additional information will be released at this time.

The adult male and three children sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention. The American Red Cross also assisted at the scene.
