Moncks Corner, S.C. – A Goose Creek man faces multiple felony charges after a Sunday night traffic stop on College Park Road allegedly escalated into an assault on a Berkeley County deputy.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, 62-year-old William Everett Ford of Indigo Lane was arrested after a deputy was nearly struck while attempting to rescue a dog along College Park Road on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Authorities said Ford allegedly drove dangerously close to the deputy and disregarded emergency blue lights. A traffic stop was conducted, and deputies observed the vehicle had deployed airbags and sustained severe damage. Ford reportedly told deputies he had just been involved in a crash.

When deputies attempted to detain him, Ford allegedly became aggressive. After verbal commands were issued, the deputy deployed a Taser and Ford was taken into custody without further incident.

Ford is charged with Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicles, Assault on Law Enforcement While Resisting Arrest, and two counts of Assault and Battery in the First Degree.

Deputies later responded to a separate road rage complaint involving Ford. According to investigators, victims reported that Ford allegedly rammed their vehicle with his truck during an argument.

Ford remains at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center on a $150,232.50 bond.

The incident may affect commuters traveling through College Park Road, a key connector in the Moncks Corner area.
