Davidson County, NC – A multi-agency work zone enforcement operation on Business 85 resulted in 88 charges Friday, targeting speeding and license violations near West Fifth Avenue.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Traffic & Criminal Enforcement Team participated in a LIDAR speed enforcement detail on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026. The operation was conducted at a roadway construction site along Business 85 near W. Fifth Avenue and hosted by the Lexington Police Department.
The enforcement effort was carried out through the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program and was part of the Davidson County Traffic Safety Task Force. Participating agencies include the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington Police Department, Thomasville Police Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol and Denton Police Department.
Officials reported a total of 88 charges during the operation. Of those, 76 were for speeding violations, with several drivers allegedly traveling more than 20 mph over the posted work zone speed limit. Additional charges included driving while license revoked, no liability insurance and operating without a valid driver’s license.
Authorities said the initiative aims to reduce crashes, improve driver awareness and protect road workers in construction areas. Work zone enforcement efforts are expected to continue throughout the county.
The increased patrols may be especially relevant for commuters and student drivers traveling through active construction corridors this spring.
