Wilmington, Delaware – A 62-year-old senior living employee was arrested after allegedly stealing jewelry from a resident on Marsh Road, prompting felony charges.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded around 10:30 a.m. Sunday to Forwood Estates, located at 1912 Marsh Road, for a reported theft.

Investigators said the incident began at approximately 8:30 a.m., when a resident left their apartment within the facility. Police allege that shortly afterward, Kem Mays, 62, of Wilmington, unlawfully entered the victim’s apartment and removed jewelry.

Troopers contacted Mays during the investigation and recovered the stolen items, which were returned to the victim, according to state police.

Mays was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1. He was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years of age or older, also a felony under Delaware law.

According to police, Mays was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $1,200 unsecured bond.

State police have not released additional details about the investigation. The allegations remain under investigation, and Mays is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

The case may draw attention among young workers entering caregiving and residential health fields, where background screening and facility safeguards are closely scrutinized.
