Delta Township, Michigan – A suspect is in custody after a child was killed and three others were injured during an alleged vehicle and shooting attack Saturday in Delta Township, authorities said.
According to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Feb. 15 to an active violence incident near Green Meadows and Farmstead Lane. When deputies arrived, they located four victims and immediately began life-saving efforts while simultaneously searching for the suspect.
A short time later, the suspect was located by Michigan State Police and taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Eaton County Jail pending authorization of charges by the Eaton County Prosecutor.
Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect allegedly drove a vehicle into a family who was out for a walk before exiting the vehicle and opening fire. Authorities said a bystander who attempted to help was also attacked and suffered serious injuries.
A young child was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman remain hospitalized in stable condition. A 72-year-old woman remains in critical condition.
Investigators stated they have reason to believe the incident is isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Sheriff’s Detective Bureau continues to investigate in collaboration with the Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Lieutenant Aaron Campbell at 517-243-9394.
The violence has shaken the quiet residential area, including families and students who regularly walk the neighborhood.
