Jackson, Mississippi – Isolated severe storms capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts are possible Saturday night across western Mississippi, prompting a Level 1 severe weather risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a low-pressure system moving across the region will bring the potential for isolated severe storms late Saturday. The primary hazard is damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph.

The Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) includes communities along and west of Interstate 55, including Vicksburg, Natchez, Brookhaven, Greenville and areas near the Mississippi River. Cities along Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 61 could also experience brief strong storms.

Forecasters emphasize that while widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms may intensify enough to cause isolated wind damage. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the forecast and ensure they have multiple ways to receive warnings Saturday night.

Storm timing is expected primarily after sunset and into the overnight hours. Drivers along I-55 and I-20 should remain alert for sudden heavy rain and gusty winds that could reduce visibility.

No additional hazards such as tornadoes or large hail were highlighted in the current outlook, though conditions will continue to be monitored.

Students, weekend travelers and those with outdoor evening plans should closely monitor updates before heading out Saturday night.

Additional forecast details will be issued as the system approaches.
