Aurora, Illinois – A Thursday afternoon armed robbery led to a police chase, crash, and five arrests in Aurora.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers responded around 3:25 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, to the area of Howell Place and Fourth Avenue after a juvenile victim reported being approached by two masked offenders displaying a firearm. Police said the suspects allegedly robbed the victim while the juvenile was walking home from school.

Investigators said both suspects were dressed in black and wearing ski masks. One allegedly displayed a handgun while the second forcibly removed the victim’s property. The suspects then fled in a nearby SUV.

Within minutes, officers located the vehicle using License Plate Reader technology relayed through the department’s Critical Incident Intelligence Center. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled, prompting a pursuit.

The chase ended when the SUV crashed near East Galena Boulevard and North State Street. Two suspects fled on foot but were quickly apprehended. Police said five individuals were detained and a firearm connected to the incident was recovered.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against multiple suspects. Antoine Jackson, 19, of Oswego, was charged with armed robbery, theft, mob action, and aggravated battery. A 16-year-old Aurora juvenile faces multiple felony counts, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of a defaced firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Rufo Alarcon, 18, of Aurora, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting a police officer causing injury.

Two additional juveniles, ages 16 and 15, were taken into custody but have not been charged.
