Morgan County, AL – A tense law enforcement situation near Shag Bark Trail ended Monday evening with one person dead inside a residence, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident began when a state trooper was following up on a vehicle wreck involving the now-deceased subject. Upon arriving at the residence, the man allegedly ran inside and fired a shot.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the trooper took a secure position until backup arrived. Deputies, along with officers from Priceville and Somerville Police Departments, responded and established a perimeter around the home.

The Sheriff’s SWAT team and negotiators were deployed, with drones assisting from above. Coroner Jeff Chunn later confirmed the subject was deceased and located inside the residence. Officials emphasized that no shots were fired by law enforcement and all officers are safe.

The area was secured around 6:18 p.m., and nearby residents who were evacuated have since been cleared to return. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased individual as of Friday morning.

The Sheriff’s Office urges the public to avoid the immediate area while the investigation continues.
