Minooka, Illinois – A man was hospitalized and a suspect arrested after a stabbing at a residence near Interstate 80.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Minooka Police were dispatched at 6:27 p.m. Saturday to 32 Main Street in the Shady Oaks trailer park, located near I-80 and U.S. Route 6, for a reported stabbing.
Authorities said deputies located Mark Berrospe, 45, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Berrospe was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition was not released.
The alleged offender, Kelsey Venecia, 38, was arrested and transported to the Grundy County Jail. Venecia was booked on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal trespassing, according to the sheriff’s office. All charges are allegations pending court proceedings.
The sheriff’s office stated deputies had responded to the same residence seven times since October 2025 for domestic-related incidents. In December 2025, both Berrospe and Venecia were arrested for domestic battery involving mutual combatants.
Deputies were also called to the residence on Jan. 5, when Berrospe allegedly avoided contact with officers due to concerns about violating pretrial release conditions, authorities said. Deputies later encountered Venecia inside the residence and submitted a report to the state’s attorney regarding alleged violations.
Saturday’s incident prompted renewed scrutiny of pretrial release conditions under Illinois law. The sheriff’s office stated the case will be reviewed by prosecutors.
The investigation remains ongoing.
For residents commuting along I-80, US-6, and US-52, the incident caused a brief law enforcement presence in the area Saturday evening.
