Jackson County, FL – A routine traffic stop in the Bascom area led to a drug arrest Thursday after deputies discovered suspected methamphetamine inside a vehicle, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy on patrol near Highway 2 and Point Lane observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in a residential area on Thursday, January 29. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over on Victory Road.

Deputies made contact with the driver, identified as William Scott Blackburn. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a container positioned behind the driver’s seat that allegedly contained multiple baggies of a crystalline substance.

Authorities said the substance was field-tested at the scene and yielded a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.

Blackburn was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Officials emphasized that the charge is an allegation, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office did not release additional details about what led deputies to search the vehicle or whether further charges could be filed.

In addition to enforcement, the sheriff’s office highlighted available outreach services for individuals struggling with substance abuse. JCSO Outreach Coordinators are available to connect residents with local resources. Anyone seeking assistance can contact Ashley Sellers at 850-693-5021 or Stephanie Culbreath at 850-693-3242.

Residents in the Bascom area are encouraged to report reckless driving or suspicious activity, especially in residential neighborhoods where speeding can pose a serious safety risk.
