Spokane County, WA – A Spokane County man was arrested this week after an alert neighbor helped deputies identify and locate a suspect accused of attempting to break into a home, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 6:20 p.m. on January 21, 2026, to reports of a possible burglary on the 6300 block of N. Normandie Street. Authorities said a neighbor witnessed 33-year-old Donovan A. McIver allegedly trying to pry open a window using a bucket and pole. Deputies said the suspect had previously been trespassed from the property.

According to investigators, the neighbor confronted McIver, who then walked away. Deputies later found evidence supporting the report, including damaged window frames and security footage.

When deputies spoke with the homeowner and her family, they confirmed McIver—who is also a family member—did not have permission to be there due to prior disruptive behavior. Deputies said they obtained probable cause to arrest him for attempted residential burglary and malicious mischief, but he was not immediately located.

Two days later, on January 23 at about 1:20 p.m., the same neighbor called again, reporting that McIver had returned and allegedly thrown rocks at the property, damaging a fence, parked car, and other items. Deputies arrived and spotted McIver walking nearby before taking him into custody.

McIver was booked into the Spokane County Jail for residential burglary (DV) and malicious mischief 3rd degree (DV).
