Authorities say the crash happened around 5:39 p.m. at the intersection of Pine Street and the I-5 Exit 33 onramp, when a 65-year-old Central Point man driving a 2022 GMC Sierra allegedly hit a 48-year-old Las Vegas man in the crosswalk.
Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO 911) dispatched multiple agencies, including Central Point Police Department, Jackson County Fire District 3, and Mercy Flights. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead approximately two hours later.
According to JCSO, the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team is conducting a full investigation with assistance from Medford Police, Ashland Police, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. The area remained closed for several hours Wednesday night as detectives processed the scene.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time. Officials said the driver is cooperating with investigators.
