Joliet, IL – A large-scale police operation in Joliet Tuesday morning led to the arrest of one man and the recovery of multiple firearms and suspected narcotics, according to the Joliet Police Department.
The coordinated raid began around 9:00 a.m. on January 22, when members of Joliet’s Special Operations Squad, Narcotics Unit, Tactical Unit, and other divisions executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of North Raynor Avenue. Nearby residents were advised to shelter in place, and a local school was briefly placed on “Secure and Teach” status as a precaution.
According to police, Jesus Zambrano, 36, was detained after officers located three loaded firearms, ammunition, and suspected cocaine, heroin, and Xanax. Two adult females at the residence were released at the scene. Zambrano was reportedly on pre-trial release for multiple pending criminal cases at the time of the arrest.
Zambrano now faces charges including unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and criminal violation of pre-trial release, officials said. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
Police Chief Bill Evans expressed frustration with what he described as a pattern of repeat offenders reentering the community despite ongoing arrests, calling Zambrano “a dangerous person who has repeatedly demonstrated that he has no regard for the law.”
The Joliet Police Department emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
