Parkland, WA – Two people were seriously injured January 8 when a mail truck caught fire after colliding with a sedan in the 10600 block of Park Avenue South in Parkland, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 12:10 p.m. to find the mail truck engulfed in flames. The first deputy on scene recognized that the mail carrier was injured and in danger from the fire. With help from a bystander, the deputy pulled the man from the burning vehicle and attempted to extinguish the flames before fire crews arrived.

A male passenger in the back seat of the sedan was also found in serious condition. Both he and the mail truck driver were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities credited a female bystander with assisting the deputy before Central Pierce Fire & Rescue units arrived to fully suppress the blaze.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported. Park Avenue South was temporarily closed as crews cleared the wreckage and investigated the scene.
